Cabaça de Levar ao Colo e Moringue com Brinco 

(Lap-Carried Gourd and Water Jug with Earring)

This piece was created upon invitation by Felipa Almeida to participate in the exhibition "Moringue vazio não carrega só vento" ("An empty water jug carries more than just wind").

The inspiration for this piece came to me as soon as I received the invitation. I remembered how I’ve always liked carrying large water jugs in my arms, held close to my lap, rather than using the handle. I also wanted to create a link to old traditions of carrying water. That’s how the shape of a gourd emerged - perfect for holding in your lap, and one of the oldest plants in the world, often used as a canteen.

Materials: Stoneware with brass handle and earring.
